Join us for a launch event to celebrate the SODA exhibition ‘Through the Lens of Tish: Gen Z’s Reflections on Class and Creativity‘
The Manchester Centre for Youth Studies (MCYS), the Class Research Group (CRG), the School of Digital Arts (SODA) and the social enterprise SharpFutures are delighted to launch the exhibition Through the Lens of Tish: Gen Z’s Reflections on Class and Creativity. Please join us for a stimulating event to celebrate the responses of a group of young working-class creatives to our film screening of the documentary film Tish (2023) earlier this year.
This collaborative project aimed to create a compelling discussion that honours the photographer Tish Murtha’s legacy and provides a platform for Generation Z to share their experiences, advocate for social change, and inspire others from similar backgrounds. Alongside the project team, we will be joined by Professor Dave O’Brien, a leading expert on the cultural and creative industries; photographer Anne Worthington; Michelle Calame, Development and Partnerships Manager at Creative UK; and producer, journalist and trainer John Offord, to explore the problem of classism in the creative sector.
Programme
- Introduction to the project: the class problem in the creative industries
- Voices of Generation Z: young working-class creatives speak out
- Professor Dave O’Brien, University of Manchester / Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre
- Panel Discussion led by Lee Stanley (SharpFutures): Confronting classism in the creative industries, featuring Anne Worthington, Michelle Calame (Creative UK) and John Offord.
